When I go on a trip to some place new, I always try to eat local. I like to find the restaurants that only exist in that one place. So here’s a list of local restaurants where I’ve actually eaten.

Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
California
San Francisco
Beep’s Burgers – a throw-back drive-in on Ocean Avenue with really good sweet potato fries.
Colorado
Montrose
Colorado Boy Pizzeria & Brewery – delicious pizza (and maybe brews if you’re into that?) in a small town. We really loved Montrose and this pizza hit the spot.
Connecticut
Delaware
Georgia
Atlanta
The Varsity–Nothing says “American Drive-In” like a good burger, am I right? Established in 1928, this place is now a very popular and delicious spot in Atlanta.
Florida
Hawaii
Idaho
Illionis
Nauvoo
Annie’s Frozen Custard–This delicious frozen custard was perfect after a long day of driving through the Midwest. It’s also perfect not after a long drive. It’s just really good custard.
Grandpa John’s Nauvoo Cafe–You’re sure to find something you’ll like on this diverse menu. It’s full of comfort food.
Indiana
Iowa
Kansas
Kansas City
Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que–Started in a gas station, this is a very popular BBQ joint. The line was out-the-door long at lunch time but it was worth the wait in the hot July air.

Louisiana
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
Nebraska
Nevada
Las Vegas
Ronald’s Donuts–A secret gem full of mouth-wateringly delicious vegan donuts. Don’t let the fact that they’re vegan scare you away, they are so dang good. I highly recommend the apple fritters, Boston cream, and donut holes. They’re cash only and their hours are limited, so be ready for that. Best donuts I’ve ever eaten though.

New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota
Ohio
Oklahoma
Oregon
Medford
Jasper’s Cafe–Fantastic gourmet burgers and fries. The most delicious meal, especially after hiking at Crater Lake National Park. This place was recommended to me by my cousin who lived in Medford for a few years, so even the locals like it.
Pelican Brewing–Okay I guess you could call this a chain, but it’s exclusive to the Oregon Coast. Their signature root beer was really good, and I don’t even like soda. Great burgers as well. A bit pricey though.

Rhode Island
South Carolina
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
Panguitch
Henrie’s Drive-In–If you can’t tell, I’m a sucker for a good burger. My mom and I ate here two days in a row because it was the perfect burger. Close to Bryce Canyon National Park. It’s a seasonal restaurant, only open from April to October.
Rambler’s Cafe–Another great burger place. With good sweet potato fries. The owners of this restaurant visited Panguitch on their honeymoon, fell in love with the town, and opened up this restaurant. Highly recommend.
Pleasant Grove
Purple Turtle–Yes, it is the restaurant that looks like a giant purple turtle shell. Their shakes are baller.
Taco Amigo–You can’t go to Pleasant Grove (PG) without going to Taco Amigo (though there is another location in Orem). Spoiler alert: they serve burgers here too. And delicious shakes. In June, come for their fresh strawberry shakes and in August you’ll be back for the fresh peach shakes. A classic haunt.
Provo
Bombay House–really good Indian food. The atmosphere is very fun and allows for an intimate meal. I think about this place a lot.
Burgers Supreme–A local Provo burger joint. Big yummy burgers. Need I say more?

Ñuñoa, Santiago
Los Almendros–YUM bakery in Ñuñoa. We frequented this one for a slice of cake or a fruit tart.
Puente Alto, Santiago
Angus Chicken–Really good Peruvian food. I ate there a few times with my Peruvian mission companion and she approved.
